National Night Out 2008

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is observed throughout the nation as a way to say thank you to our policemen and firemen.  This takes place the 1st Tuesday of August each year.  We turn on our front door lights at dusk -- "Lights on means lights out for crime".

Here in Woodland Springs we have observed this evening for the past 10 years with a small neighborhood gathering.  It started out with one on Rolling Springs Dr. W., the part that goes east and west, and has now grown to 4 ( 1 gathering on the North side, 1 on the East and 2 on the West side).  Each of these gatherings gets visitors from the city.  Last year we had policemen from DARE, CrimeWatch, motorcycle squad; firemen on the truck; the mayor, police chief, fire chief and the police chaplain. It's a good way to socialize with your neighbors and meet new neighbors.

Some gatherings are pitch-ins for drinks, some desserts, some snacks. Please call the hostess (see list below) to let them know you are coming and find out what you might need to bring. Then bring your chair and join the fun.

Hopefully, we will have a few more next year.  If interested in doing one in your area, call Trudie at 846-7553.
